RAVENSBRÜCK

© Bart Grietens

Aline Vervoort, the grand-mother of Stefanie Claes, is arrested during the Second World War with her parents in their house in Winksele. She spends one year in the German women’s concentration camp in Ravensbruck. She survives these months of darkness in the cold and hungry, the maltreatment, but her life is always tainted by the terrible events of the war. Nothing is as it once was. As a child, Stefanie sometimes dreamt, that soldiers came into her street and she had to flee. But it is only at the age of 16 that she really realises the drama that has taken place in her family and she begins to talk about it with her grandmother and her mother. Gradually it becomes clear that the feelings of war are part of their family life. The war is everywhere. ≫ravensbruck≪ is a wordless and visual performance. More than the literal meaning of a war trauma, ≫ravensbruck≪ is about how certain events have a lifelong impact in and on our lives. Three generations of women take centre stage, because everyone is someone's child.

We love co-operations! This is why we are particularly pleased that in 2025 we have the opportunity to co-operate again with the Festival of Regions (FdR). The FdR will take place from 13 to 22 June 2025 with ≫Realistische Träume≪ (realistic dreams) as its motto; this time the Innviertel is the venue for this artistic performance. SCHAXPIR x FdR join forces in ≫ravensbruck≪.
