CLAY PLAY

© Guy Avni

≫Clay Play≪ is a dance of transformation. Three dancers work with, against and within a living mass of clay. It is a dialogue between the body and the earth, in which the boundaries become blurred. the clay becomes meat, the dancers become sculptures. They lift, press and shape the clay – and in turn the clay shapes them. A dancer’s feet sink into the richness of the clay making the dancer appear to hover in the air; another dancer covers his face with a pliant mask thus becoming something volatile, something new. Inspired by a child’s playful exploration of a sand pit, the play invites you to a purely tactile experience. In the final minutes big and small members of the audience step onto the stage – they press their hands into the cool and soft clay – thus becoming part of the dance and part of the story.
